The Acute Community Children’s Nursing Team (Orchard Service) are experienced children’s trained nurses who visit acutely sick children in their own home.
The aim of the service is to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital and promote early discharge.
This is achieved by the following care being provided at home:

  • Assessment of sick babies, children and young people
  • Providing treatment to your child
  • Support and advice to parents and carers
  • Education regarding management of common illnesses
  • Signposting to other services needed

We work closely with Health Visitors, School Health Nurses, Midwives, Hospital Doctors and Nurses, General Practitioners, Social Care, Education and voluntary agencies. All children will have a named doctor who will remain responsible for your child’s care. If you have not been contacted by an Orchard Service community nurse within 24 hours of discharge from hospital, please contact our office appropriate to your area. Please see the Orchard Service leaflet link below.
