Welcome to the offender health pages of the
Worcestershire Health Care NHS Trust (WHCNT) site.
The Offender Health Directorate of WHCNT is at the forefront of
delivering modern primary care, mental health and substance misuse
services for its client group. The care and management of patients
in a custodial setting is becoming an increasingly important
specialty in its own right and WHCNT is developing high quality,
clinically effective services for this exceptionally vulnerable
group of patients. The Directorate is also seeking to expand
its work beyond the borders of Worcestershire.
Prisons We Serve
HMP Hewell
HMP Hewell was created by an amalgamation of the three former
prisons on this site - HMPs Blakenhurst, Brockhill and Hewell
Grange - in June 2008. Each site caters for a different category of
prisoner. House blocks 1-6 (formerly HMP Blakenhurst) hold adult
male Cat B prisoners and function as a local prison, house block 7
(formerly HMP Brockhill) holds adult male Cat C prisoners, and
house block 8 (formerly HMP Hewell Grange) holds male Cat D
prisoner in open conditions. The prison primarily serves the
Worcestershire, West Midlands and Warwickshire catchment
area. The prison operational capacity is 1431 prisoners.
HMP Long Lartin
HMP Long Lartin is a male adult prison in the high secure estate
and holds both category A and B prisoners serving between 4 years
and life. The prison operational capacity is 622 prisoners.
HMP Featherstone 2
HMP Featherstone 2 will be a new category C Trainer prison in
South Staffordshire, housing 1,605 adult male prisoners.
Planned to open in March 2012, the prison will be fully occupied
over a 6 or 7 month period. WHCNT is bidding for all three
healthcare contracts (primary care, mental health and substance
misuse) at HMP Featherstone 2.
