Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team (Redditch & Bromsgrove)

Living with a Neurological Condition

A neurological condition results from disease, injury or damage to the body’s nervous system. There is a wide variety of neurological conditions and people have very different experiences.

Neurological conditions can cause a range of problems for the individual that may include physical or movement problems, altered sensation, communication, problems with memory or behaviour.

People with long term neurological conditions also face complex challenges in trying to live as they would wish. Providing appropriate information, practical advice and support, together with co-ordinating health and care resources, helps to reduce these difficulties, promote health and improve quality of life. Although many neurological conditions cannot be cured, there is evidence that good multi disciplinary working has a positive impact on health and wellbeing.

The role of the Neurological Rehabilitation Team

The Neurological Rehabilitation Team is a multi-disciplinary group that is part of Worcestershire Intergrated Rehabilitation Service (WINRS). The team supports and enables people living with long term neurological conditions to lead a full life in the community. It provides access to a range of rehabilitation advice and support to meet continuing and changing needs. This can restore confidence and gives control back to individuals and their families.

Local support for Neurological Conditions

There are a number of groups in the county, run by health professionals or volunteers, who provide therapy, advice and local support.

These include:

• Physiotherapy groups
• Specialist courses and Education
• Self help and alternative therapy
• Carer’s Group
• MND Association
