A diagnosis of MND can be overwhelming but there is a whole range of help and support available within South Worcestershire and through the MND Association.

Regional Care Centres

There are twelve specialist MND Care Centres across the UK including Birmingham (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and Oxford.

GPs can make referrals to the neurologists at either of these centres for a diagnosis or second opinion.

Patients will be seen by a team of specialist health professionals and may be offered the chance to take part in any current drug trials.

They may be referred to other specialists who link into these care centres such as respiratory consultants. They will also receive ongoing support and advice.

MND Association

The MND Association produce a personal guide of information and practical advice for anyone diagnosed with MND. There are additional optional sections that can also be ordered.

To order your pack, contact the MND association.

Members of the Network

St Richards Hospice

The hospice team includes their own doctors, nurses, social worker, counsellors and therapists working alongside highly trained volunteers.

One of their main aims is to enable patients to stay at home where possible, providing their care alongside their own doctors and nurses with the backup of the Day Hospice. When appropriate, patients may be admitted to the In-patient Unit. The day hospice offers the opportunity to socialise in a supportive environment, access expert advice in an informal setting and try out complementary therapies. The hospice also provides support in the community through the work of clinical nurse specialists, family and carer support practitioners and consultant physicians.
