Documents that Guide Practice
In 1999, the Government set out detailed proposals with the aim
to: 1) improve quality, 2) increase collaboration between
professionals, and 3) reduce unacceptable or undesirable variations
in practice. DtGP provide a means of incorporating evidence into
practice, and ensuring that practice is regularly reviewed and
updated. They are therefore one way in which the above aims can be
achieved. In most cases, good quality, up-to-date DtGP do not take
away the importance of clinical judgement, but provide clinicians
with an evidence-based framework within which well informed
clinical decisions can be made.
What are Documents that Guide Practice
(DtGP)?
DtGP encompasses strategies, protocols, policies, guidelines,
plans and procedures that are endorsed by a strategic group (Trust
Board, Governance Committee).
Who has the responsibility to oversee the development of
a DtGP?
The Quality Committee.
