Health & Care Trust - Patient Group Directions

We have changed the way that PGDs are accessed from this page. There is now a single alphabetical list and no subdivisions for speciality. This approach avoids the need for a single PGD to appear in more than one list and so ensures that the most up to date version is accessed every time. Details of staff qualifications necessary for using each PGD are contained (as previously) in the body of the text. Staff need to be signed up (in advance) for each and every PGD that they plan to use. This would normally take place via consultation with a departmental lead.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If a PGD is updated the individual approval/authorisation must be updated – ie a signature on one sheet does NOT provide authorisation for all updates of the PGD. Signed and dated documentation that a member of staff is deemed competent to use the CURRENT version of the specific PGD is necessary before that individual uses the PGD. This is a legal requirement and is the responsibility of both the individual and the service lead. To make it easier for you to see which PGDs have been updated recently, the date is shown in RED for those renewed with the last 3 months.

The same applies if a member of staff transfers to a new service because their authorisation does not transfer with them as authorisation against individual PGDs is service-specific.
