Consultation on delivery of high quality GP services in Hereford City

Local NHS leaders are seeking the views of the public over the future of seven-day primary care services in the city of Hereford.
A consultation into a number of proposed changes is to be launched this week (March 2) and closes on Monday 24 April, 2017.
These proposals are designed to ensure that the Clinical Commissioning Group can secure the very best services for patients, who should expect the same high quality of care seven days a week.
We are therefore proposing:
  • To change the current walk-in centre location in South Wye into a GP practice by relocating the Ross Road branch of Moorfield House Surgery into the walk-in centre location. This will ensure there are accessible primary care services with good transport links and parking.
  • To relocate the seven-day service currently provided by Taurus Healthcare at Wargrave House Surgery on St Owen Street to the walk-in centre location.
  • Encourage and support people across Herefordshire to register with a GP Practice so that they can benefit from the best possible, continuous care. We will develop a plan to improve access to GP services for people who find registering with a GP difficult.

The current contract with Nestor Primecare Ltd which operates the GP Access Centre (walk in centre) will end in June.
Simon Hairsnape, Accountable Officer at NHS Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The South Wye area has been identified as having the greatest demographic need, but with the poorest primary care access.
“The aims of our proposals are to enhance primary care access for patients in the South Wye area thereby ensuring continuity of care so that patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
"No final decision has yet been made. We are now consulting on our proposals and we are keen to hear the views of local people.”
“We want everyone to have an opportunity to find out more about what we are proposing and have organised four meetings where you can get more information and we will be available to answer any questions you may have. People can also tell us their views online or by post by completing our questionnaire.”

The proposed changes are in relation to primary care delivery in Hereford city only. Although this forms part of a wider strategy for Herefordshire, the proposed changes do not affect the scope of what may subsequently be considered in other parts of the county.
