What is the Friends and Family Test?   

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is a way for people to provide anonymised, real time feedback about the NHS service they are using. It asks if people would recommend the service they used to friends or family. 

What we have to do 

Give people the opportunity to complete the FFT if they want to. This means we must tell you about it and how to complete it.

Do I have to take part? 

No, completing the FFT is voluntary. Staff will tell you about the FFT after your appointment/admission with us. They have been asked to use their professional judgement about who might be suitable to complete it (and who might not). For example, we will not direct you to the FFT if you appear too unwell or have already said you don’t want to complete it. We will not share anything you say with anyone else unless you give us permission to do so.   

How do I take part?

There are a number of ways for you to complete the FFT. These are:

  1. Returning a pre-paid postal questionnaire after your appointment/admission.

  2. Take the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YOURFFT

  3. Leaving a questionnaire in the FFT collection boxes in our hospitals/clinics. 

  4. By ‘phoning the Patient Experience Team on 01905 681519 and telling us about your experience.

If you use more than one service you can complete a separate questionnaire for each service you’ve used. We will also be developing different versions of the FFT for people who may struggle to complete the written questionnaire.
