Children’s Mental Health Week 2025: Families encouraged to download Lumi Nova – A fun and innovative app supporting young minds

A happy young child sat cross legged with a tablet on their lap and on the screen is the Lumi Nova app

For this year's Children's Mental Health Awareness Week, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the main provider of children’s mental health services locally is encouraging families to explore Lumi Nova, a groundbreaking new app designed to support young people’s mental wellbeing.

Recently launched in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Lumi Nova offers a fresh, interactive approach to help children aged 7-12 understand and manage their worries, fears, and anxieties.

Developed in collaboration with parents, NHS clinicians, educators, mental health experts, and children themselves, Lumi Nova empowers young users to self-manage their emotions in a safe, engaging environment.

The NICE-approved app transforms mental health support into a fun, game-like experience, equipping children with evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to build resilience, develop coping skills, and gain confidence.

“Many young people experience symptoms of anxiety, such as excessive worry or avoidance, which can start to impact their daily lives”, explains Sonja Upton, Associate Director of Children, Young People, Families, and Specialist Primary Care.

“Lumi Nova provides a fun and interactive way for children to learn practical, lifelong strategies to tackle anxiety, all within a safe digital space.

“We’re thrilled to offer this innovative tool to young people locally, providing them with free, on-demand support when they need it".

Lumi Nova presents a fun, adventure-filled experience where children embark on challenges that help them navigate daily life with greater confidence.

Families in Herefordshire and Worcestershire can access Lumi Nova free of charge, without the need for a prescription or referral.

While the app is designed for independent use, it is most effective when children are supported by a parent or trusted adult, this could be at home or in school.

Getting started is simple, the app is available to download via the link belowand can be accessed straight away.

Kooth is designed for young people aged 11 – 18 and offers 24-hour access to self-help materials, mood-tracking and goal-setting tools.
