The accreditation recognises good practice and high-quality care whilst supporting services to identify and address areas for improvement.

It assures staff, patients, carers, commissioners and regulators of the quality of the service being provided.

Sally Simmonds, Perinatal Mental Health Team Manager said, “This accreditation is owed to the hard work of the team, and I couldn’t be prouder of their commitment to supporting mums and their close ones in Herefordshire.

“Around 10% of women go on to develop postnatal mental health problems and we want to ensure anyone experiencing difficulties feels supported to access our and our partner agencies services help when they need it.”

The team provide specialist care for mothers during pregnancy and following childbirth who may experience mental health problems.

They work as a multidisciplinary team alongside partners, including Midwives and Health Visitors, to ensure patient’s needs are met and families are supported.

To gain accreditation, they completed a self-review and collated feedback from staff, patients, partners and family members.

A tour of the service was also conducted, and the review team validated standards through a document checklist. At the end of the review, the review team provided feedback to the service on their achievements and areas for improvement.

The team encourages women who are worried about how they are feeling during pregnancy or postpartum to speak to their midwife, GP or heath visitor who can help them access help and support.
