About our service
We provide a rehabilitation service that offers a range of professional skills and self-management resources to help you to manage your symptoms and deal with the specific issues you are facing.
ME/CFS and LC affect the whole person, including physical symptoms, emotional wellbeing, the ability to function in employment, education, at home and relationships with friends and family. For this reason, we work as a multi-disciplinary team using a holistic approach, and aim to work closely with other services to offer joined up care.
The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) includes:
- A GP
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapist
- Psychologists
- Therapy Assistant
- Administrators
Our staff will carry out a more in-depth assessment of your symptoms and the impact these have on your life. This will be carried out either online, over the phone or – where clinically indicated or preferred - face to face. Further recommendations for advice or treatment will be provided and if appropriate, you may also receive further specialist multidisciplinary support. This may include a virtual group or 1:1 support.
Information for patients
· What happens after I’ve been referred to the service
Once a referral has been accepted, you’ll be invited to attend an initial assessment. This is a chance for us to introduce our service and what we can offer, find out more about your symptoms and how they affect your daily life, and to provide some basic information about the condition. A personalised plan will be agreed in collaboration with you and the clinician.
A family member or friend is also welcome to attend this appointment.
· What the service offers
Depending on the outcome of the assessment, support may include virtual groups and/or 1:1 support
Regular Workshops will also be offered in the following areas: Breathlessness, Employment, Mindfulness, Young Persons and Carers
· What happens after I’m discharged?
Once you are discharged from the service, you have the option to re-refer yourself to the service over the next 6 months if required. You will also be able to access the RaM group.
Information for families
We know that support networks are very important for those with ME/CFS and LC and we seek to “support the supporters” where we can. You are welcome to attend appointments, at the invitation of the person with ME/CFS/LC, and we can signpost you to relevant resources and support groups if required. We also offer a workshop for family, friends and carers, held twice a year.
Many friends and family members do not think of themselves as ‘carers’, however if any of your time and energy is spent offering support to someone who could not manage without, then you are considered to be a carer and are therefore entitled to support for yourself.
