Campaign set to raise mental health awareness in young people

Child writing the Great Big Lunch Break

Schools and colleges across Herefordshire and Worcestershire are invited to hold a 'Great Big Lunch Break' to promote mental health awareness among children and young people.

'The Great Big Lunch Break' campaign has been developed to help start conversations about mental health in local education settings.

From the 1st November, schools and colleges will be able to sign up for a free campaign pack full of resources to help them run a fun and thought-provoking event themed around mental health.

Matt Lammas, Locality Services Manager for Wellbeing and Emotional Support Teams in Schools said: “We want children and young people to feel comfortable at school so they can speak up when they are struggling to cope with feelings such as anxiety or worry.

“We hope all schools are able to get involved by holding their own Great Big Lunch Break which has been designed to encourage conversations about mental health and help children realise that it is ok to get support when they need it.”

“The great thing is that schools can hold an event in any format or at any time that works for them. Whether that’s in a playground or during an assembly, there are lots of ways to get involved.”

The free resource pack contains age-appropriate materials, engaging mental health themed activity ideas and extras to brighten your event space like colourful bunting.

Developed by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the main provider of mental health services across both counties, the campaign supports the launch of the Wellbeing and Emotional Support Teams in Schools and the new Children's Mental Health website - set to launch next month.

Schools and colleges can register for a free resource pack by emailing WHCNHS.communications@nhs.net. Packs will be sent directly to registered schools after the 11th November.
