Hospital thanks charity for equipment donation

Patients at one of Worcestershire’s community hospitals will benefit from the kindness of a local charity who have made a donation of new medical equipment.

The Friends of Evesham Community Hospital have donated equipment that will enhance the experience of patients receiving care at the town’s community hospital.

Made up of volunteers, ‘The Friends’ are a registered charity who have worked alongside the hospital for over 60 years, taking part in activities and events to fundraise for additional facilities and equipment. They also help to coordinate donations and legacies, which are used to purchase items that will benefit patients, their families and staff at the hospital.

Run by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Evesham Community Hospital provides a range of inpatient and community services, including the Worcestershire Stroke Rehabilitation Centre; a service providing specialist care and rehabilitation for people who have had a stroke, Evesham Minor Injury Unit, community dental services and an outpatient department, including physiotherapy services.

The equipment, which includes new wheelchairs, blood pressure monitors, falls alert kits and a patient lifting hoist, will be used to support patients accessing services across the hospital.

Daniel Marshall, Matron, Evesham Community Hospital said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Friends of Evesham Community Hospital for their kindness and generosity. They have continued to support us throughout the pandemic, and in the last year alone we have gratefully received several hoists and 12 wheelchairs which have made a real difference to our patients.”

Frances Smith, Chairman of The Friends of Evesham Community Hospital said: “Over the years we have funded theatre trolleys, auroscopes for theatre, £10,000-worth of equipment for the physio dept., defibrillators, profiling beds, Nimbus mattresses, ECG machines, orthopaedic chairs and an ultrasound machine costing approx. £76,000”

“The Friends could achieve none of this without the generosity of Evesham people who are always very willing to support their local hospital. The support of local people never ceases to amaze me”.
