Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has confirmed the appointments of four new non-executive directors to its Board to address succession planning and in readiness for two of our NED colleagues completing their term of office during the coming year.  

In the NHS, non-executive directors are not substantive employees, but act as critical friends working alongside executive directors as equal members of the Trust’s Board. They share responsibility with the other directors for the decisions made by the Board and for the overall performance of the organisation.

Carole Cumino, Veena Allison, Biraj Parmar and Susan Hincks will work alongside other non-executives and the Executive Team to set the organisation’s strategic direction, monitor performance, ensure high standards of corporate governance, and help promote links between the Trust and the local community.

• Carole Cumino will be known to many of you having been Chief Executive of Worcestershire Association of Carers since 2011, only retiring from the position earlier this year.
• Veena Allison qualified as a solicitor before embarking on a career as an HR and employment law consultant. She also runs a management training and development company.
• Biraj Parmar has significant experience across the finance and banking industry. He previously held a non-executive director role in an NHS acute trust in Hertfordshire.
• Susan Hincks has had a successful career in education, most recently as Headmistress in an independent school in Bolton. She is a trustee of an alternative provision setting in Greater Manchester, as well as serving as Safeguarding Governor for Bolton University.

They bring a mixture of local knowledge, NHS experience, and a wide range of skills and experiences built up during their successful careers which will be invaluable to the Trust over the coming years. Alongside our other Board members and the 4,500 staff working across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, they will play a key role in helping the Trust provide the best services we can to people across our communities.”

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust provides mental health and learning disability services across both counties. We also run community hospitals, children’s services, sexual health, community dental and community-based nursing and therapy services in Worcestershire.
