Trust awarded prestigious National Preceptorship Quality Mark

This prestigious accolade recognises excellence in the support provided to newly registered clinicians and reaffirms the Trust’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and developing healthcare professionals at the start of their careers.  

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is the lead provider of mental health and learning disability services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, supporting children, adults, and older people.  

The Trust offers a preceptorship programme across all clinical roles which including: dietitians, health visitors, internationally educated staff, nurses, nursing associates, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychological wellbeing practitioners, school nurses and staff returning to practice.   

A preceptorship is a structured period of transition for the newly registered clinician when they start employment in the NHS , d uring this time, the preceptee is supported by an experienced practitioner (a preceptor). The goal is to develop the confidence of the newly-registered  individual as an independent professional, and to refine their skills, values and behaviours.  

The National Preceptorship Quality Mark is a symbol of assurance for preceptees and stakeholders alike, demonstrating an organisation s commitment to delivering a structured, supportive, and high-quality preceptorship programme.  

The quality mark represents:  

  • Independent validation of our robust and high-quality preceptorship framework  

  • Recognition of our comprehensive preceptor training and access to excellent resources  

  • Reassurance that all newly registered clinicians receive consistent and effective support throughout their early practice journey

One nursing student who is currently undergoing preceptorship at the Trust said, “ A great preceptorship goes beyond clinical skills, it builds confidence, nurtures compassion and shapes the next generation of nurses.   

''The preceptorship course gives a great insight into the trust and creates a  really safe space for newly qualified staff to be able to forum any issues or experiences and know they have support.''
