Dental - Community Special Care and Children's

We provide specialist dental care for children and adults whose treatment needs cannot be met within a general dental practice. The majority of our patients have physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical, emotional or social impairment, or often a combination of these factors.
- Service hours: Monday - Friday, 08:45am – 12:30pm and 1:15pm – 5:00pm
About the service
We are the Specialist Children's Dental Team in Worcestershire. We help people who cannot go to a normal dentist. You need a referral to use our service.
The children’s dental team includes:
- A consultant in paediatric dentistry
- Dentists
- Dental therapists
- Dental nurses
- Receptionists
Who we see
We only see children who are referred to us. People who can refer to us include:
- Dentist
- GP (family doctor)
- Paediatrician (children’s doctor)
- School nurse
- Health visitor
- Social worker
We care for children with:
- Learning disabilities
- Physical disabilities
- Communication difficulties
- Long term mental health conditions
- Long term complex health conditions
- Cleft lip or palate
- Unusual tooth development
- Serious tooth injuries
- Children with 'child protection plans' or 'looked after children' with an identified issue that needs treatment
- Very bad anxiety about dental treatment
- Behavioural challenges
Some children have one course of treatment and then go back to their regular dentist, others stay with us for regular check-ups.
How to access the service
We do not accept referrals directly from patients or their families. But professionals, like general dentists and GPs can refer you to our service.
General dental practitioners should refer through Rego only.
General medical practitioners and other healthcare professionals can also make referrals by completing the online form below. Please read the referral criteria before starting, which is on the page.
