Prathibha's story

My name is Prathibha, I am a Staff Nurse working on Woodland Ward, New Haven, at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove.

I trained in India and completed a 4-year BSc Nursing degree. Nursing has always been a passion for me, and I was inspired to pursue it as a meaningful and fulfilling career path.

I joined the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust after successfully attending an interview arranged through an agency based within India. Before joining the Trust, I passed my OET and CBT exams. The agency provided us with OSCE training in Mysore, India, which prepared me well for my transition to the UK.

As a staff nurse in an older adult mental health ward, my role involves providing holistic care, ensuring safety, and supporting patients' emotional and psychological well-being. I find it especially rewarding to make a positive impact on my patients’ lives during vulnerable times and to see improvements in their mental health through our interventions.

In the future, I hope to continue building my skills in mental health nursing, pursue further training or specialisation, and eventually move into a senior role. I am also interested in contributing to training and mentoring new nurses.

The most challenging part of moving to the UK was adjusting to a new culture and environment while being far from my family. However, the support from colleagues, friends, and the warm welcome from the Trust helped me overcome homesickness. Gradually, I adapted and now feel confident and settled in both my professional and personal life.
