Dental treatment charges

If you pay for your dental care, NHS charges will still apply when you visit the community dental service. Dental treatment is allocated to one of three bands.

W hen you arrive you’ll be asked to show proof if you don’t have to pay. If you are unable to show proof of exemption, then you will be provided with a bill after your visit. For more information about dental treatment costs

Low income support
Not all people receiving benefits are entitled to help with their health costs. Patients can find out if they’re entitled to free or reduced cost NHS dental treatment using the online eligibility checker. If you don’t qualify for free treatment but have a low income, you might get help with the cost through the NHS low income scheme.

Important!
If you say you don’t have to pay but you’re not eligible, you could get a Penalty Charge Notice of up to £100, plus the cost of your treatment.

Claiming a refund for NHS dental treatment
If you pay but later find out that you were eligible for free or reduced cost treatment, you might be able to get a refund.

How to pay
You will be asked to pay after each visit, you will pay the Band 1 charge after your first check up and any extra costs will be explained to you.
