Team work and support in facilities

Dionne Breeze, Assistant Facilities Coordinator holding a blue heart that says 'together we can' with the NHS logo

I'm Dionne Breeze and I am an Assistant Facilities Co-ordinator in the Facilities department, looking after Housekeeping in the North of Worcestershire.

I started my career in the NHS as a part time Housekeeping Assistant in August 1997 in a Health Centre in Redditch. Over the past 26 years, I have progressed through each pay banding, I have been supported, and have been given fantastic learning and development opportunities from supervisory skills to taking a level 5 leadership management course. My team encourage me to develop, and I am currently enrolled on a course to get my GCSE maths qualification.

Flexibility was important to me and was one of the reasons I was attracted to working in healthcare. The part time hours provide great flexibility and my favourite part of working in facilities is the teamwork.

Everyone is always so friendly and supportive, and there are so many advantages to working for the NHS such as good pensions, unions, discounts, generous annual leave entitlement and fantastic health and wellbeing support.

I would use the phrase ‘team work’ to describe the facilities department. All of facilities help each other out as much as possible. Groups socialise together and ‘support’ is a big word within our team. I had breast cancer 10 years ago and had an operation, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy and with the support from our trust and department I was back at work after just 9 months.

As this has been my only job, I can only ever say that this has been my best career decision and I hope to progress further. I love learning and enjoy all of the training we offer as a trust.
