Vismaya's story

I work as a Staff Nurse on Meadow Ward within New Haven, I trained my BSc in Nursing in the year of 2023.  Why did I move into Nursing? I wanted to do something in my career that is challenging, interesting and makes a difference in people's lives daily. So, I chose Nursing.

I moved to this Trust from India, after completing my BSc Nursing degree I then completed an Occupational English Test and Computer Based Test in Mental Health Nursing to complete my NMC registration.  The final step to after arriving in the UK, was to complete the OSCE examination. Each step was a new experience for me and I'm so happy that I achieved these all.

I am now working as staff nurse. I'm proud of securing my position through hard work and full involvement in the patient care. When I look back, I feel have improved a lot in my profession by learning ward procedures as quick as I can.  I also feel I’ve developed the confidence to be involved in challenging situations.

In future, I would look forward to continued success in my role and to build my career further. I would also like to progress further, into a role where I can help to provide even better care for patients and for the trust.

The most challenging aspect of moving to UK was the language, climate and leaving family. I feel I have overcome most of these challenges. In the beginning, I felt insecure about my English language skills, however now I'm confident to talk to everyone. Trying to overcome these factors everyday helped me to improve myself.
