Chairman’s tenure to end in March

Chris Burdon will step down as Chairman of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust at the end of March, after 10 years in the role which is the maximum overall term permitted.

Chris’ term of office as Chairman ends on March 31st and his successor is due to be announced over the coming weeks.

Chris has been Chairman of the Trust since it was formed in 2011 working alongside Chief Executive Sarah Dugan who took up her role at the same time. During this time the Trust has been recognised as a national leader in a number of clinical areas, including dementia care and as a Digital Exemplar Trust. Some of its services are rated Outstanding by the independent regulator, the CQC - the highest rating possible. This includes the Trust’s Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation service and the Children and Young People’s Mental Health team which are ranked among the best in the country.

The Trust has consistently met all its financial objectives too, enabling it to invest in new buildings and environments for patients. This includes the flagship New Haven unit in Bromsgrove which opened in 2013, and the refurbishment of a range of clinics and inpatient areas across our estate.

Chris said:It has been my privilege to have been Chairman since the Trust was established in 2011 and to have been associated with our wonderfully skilled and dedicated staff who, alongside our partners across healthcare, social care and the voluntary sector, work so hard to provide such high standards of care across our two counties. I have no doubt that the Trust will, alongside our partners, continue to provide the compassionate, effective and person centred care which have characterised the organisation over the last 10 years.”

Sarah Dugan, Chief Executive at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, added: “There is no doubt the services we provide to local people have been greatly enhanced as a result of Chris’ leadership and support as Chairman of the Trust. As well as bringing a wealth of experience from his earlier career in the private sector, Chris has always been a real champion for our staff and patients and in ensuring our values are felt on every ward and clinic and in every team.  He will be a missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with him. Alongside our new Chair, we will be relentless in our drive to build on the legacy Chris will leave behind and I know everyone at the Trust will join me in thanking him for the huge contribution he has made to our local NHS.”
