Free support to quit smoking for children and young people in Worcestershire
Young people aged 12 to 17 years across Worcestershire can now access dedicated support to help them stop smoking through the Smoke Free Homes service.
Launching on Monday 14th September 2026, the new offer provides 2 weeks of free one-to-one support from personalised support from Stop Smoking Support Workers experienced in working with young people. Appointments can take place at school, at home or in another setting where the young person feels comfortable.
The service offers a supportive and non-judgemental approach, helping young people understand their smoking habits, set goals and work towards becoming smoke free. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can be provided to support young people to quit smoking.
Michelle Caladine, Smoking Prevention Public Health Nurse Specialist and Team Lead for Smoke Free Homes said: "Stopping smoking can be difficult, especially for young people who may feel they have to tackle it alone. That's why we're pleased to be expanding the Smoke Free Homes service to offer dedicated support for 12 to 17 year olds across Worcestershire."
Research shows that many smokers start smoking at a young age, making it important that young people can access support as early as possible. The new service allows young people to self-refer and get help when they feel ready to quit.
"It's completely free to access, and there is no pressure or judgement. We work with every young person to understand their needs to help them find an approach that works best for them." Michelle added.
"It's never too early to quit and never too late to ask for help".
Councillor Alan Bailes, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council said: "Too many people start smoking at a young age, and we know the earlier someone begins, the greater the risk to their health in later life. That's why it is vital that young people who want to quit can access the right support at the right time.
This new service is an important step forward for Worcestershire, giving young people access to specialist advice and practical support in a way that works for them. Every young person who chooses to become smoke free is making a positive investment in their future health and wellbeing.
We are committed to preventing the harms caused by smoking and helping to create a healthier, smokefree generation across Worcestershire."
Smoke Free Homes also supports parents, carers and other family members living with a child or young person under 19 in Worcestershire to quit smoking and create a smoke free home.
