Garden transformation nears completion

Meadow Green – the newly named garden at Meadow Ward in Bromsgrove is undergoing a complete transformation to improve the outdoor space for its patients.  

The unit which is situated within New Haven on the site of Princess of Wales Community Hospital, provides specialist inpatient care and treatment for older adults with dementia. It's multidisciplinary team are passionate about engaging patients in meaningful activities specifically designed to improve their wellbeing.

The new garden will help to support these goals, while supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of the patients.

The project, which started earlier this year will see the creation of a new, multipurpose space that can be customiseGround work underway in the garden aread to meet a range of therapeutic purposes for patients on the ward. 

The layout, materials and functionality of the garden has been carefully designed with people with dementia in mind. It features new specialist flooring which has leveled out the previously sloped ground, improving access and safety for patients.

Extensive groundwork and landscaping has taken place, making way for the new garden buildings including a corner shop and potting shed; designed to recreate familiar everyday environments for patients.

The buildings, which are expected to be installed next month will be customised with artwork and props that replicate a villageThe picture features cleared land with two concrete pads installed infront of a green metal fence shop and café - designed to recreate familiar everyday environments for patients.

The work is expected to be completed in September 2022, with an official opening planned for later that month.
