New Acting Chair strengthens local roots and strategic expertise in NHS Trust

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Biraj Parmar as Acting Chair of the Board of Directors.

Biraj, who has served as a Non-Executive Director since May 2023, steps into this role following the sad passing of former Chair, Mark Yates. His appointment ensures continuity and strong leadership at a time when the Trust remains focused on delivering safe, high-quality care for local communities.

With more than 25 years of experience in the investment and commercial banking sector, as well as having served as a non-executive director in a large acute trust, Biraj's proven expertise in financial, people and strategic leadership will help guide the Trust through future challenges and opportunities, ensuring that patient care remains at the heart of every decision.

A proud West Midlander, Biraj grew up in Walsall and graduated from Aston University, reinforcing his strong connection to the region. Since retiring from finance in 2019, he has dedicated his time to healthcare and charitable work, including volunteering with Rennie Grove Hospice Care, where he supported patients and carers with companionship, respite, and practical help.

Speaking about his appointment, Biraj said: “I’m honoured to take on the role of Acting Chair to serve the communities of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The Trust plays a vital role in supporting people’s health and care, and I’m committed to working with colleagues to ensure we continue to deliver safe and compassionate care. Having grown up in the Midlands, this feels like a very personal opportunity to give back to a region that means so much to me.”

Biraj’s leadership style has already made an impression across the organisation. Many colleagues describe him as energising, approachable and a delight to work with – qualities that reflect his passion for people as much as his strategic expertise.

Away from the boardroom, Biraj supports his wife, Beth, in running a cookery school and enjoys long countryside walks with their two dogs, Bruno and Enzo.

The Trust will begin the process of recruiting a permanent Chair in the coming months. During this time, Biraj’s experience and insight will help steer the organisation through this important period.
