Staff from Holt Ward, part of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, have successfully completed the Tough Mudder challenge and raised over £1,000 for Rethink Mental Illness.
Holt ward is a 16-bed acute mental health inpatient ward based in the Elgar Unit in Worcester. Here, assessment, care and treatment are provided for individuals with acute mental health needs. The ward plays a vital role in supporting patients through crisis and establishing the beginning of a pathway to recovery.
Tough Mudders are obstacle courses, usually set out over miles to test your physical strength, mental grit and teamwork. For Holt Ward, it was more than just a fitness challenge, it was also about helping those who struggle with their mental health.
Completing the Tough Mudder was a huge achievement for the team” said Emily Shirley, Healthcare Assistant (HCA) on Holt Ward. “I’m so proud we worked together to reach our fundraising target. We are so grateful for all the generous donations and support we received. It means a lot to us and will no doubt mean so much to the people Rethink Mental Illness helps every day. A special shout out to HCA Dominic Brace, who was unable to participate following injury but became our chief fundraiser in the lead up to the day and raised over £600 of the total.”
Rethink Mental Illness is a leading UK charity supporting people severely affected by mental illness. It provides expert information, services, and advocacy for individuals, families, and carers affected by mental illness.
