A children's nursing and palliative care team in North Worcestershire are nominated in the 2025 Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards.

Orchard Service (North) has been recognised for the 'Palliative/End of Life' award.

The team, based at the Princes of Wales Community Hospital, provides holistic support for children and young people across North Worcestershire, with both acute and long-term health conditions. This includes those with life limiting or threatening conditions.

Orchard Service were nominated by a parent of a patient who was quoted in the Worcester News saying: "As a family, it is hard to fully understand so much on a complex journey but everyone that has been on our family’s journey has been kind, compassionate, supportive, knowledgeable and had such a wealth of experience which resulted in such a high level of care that cannot go unnoticed. It is not easy having a child on a palliative journey but in our case our child was given time.

"Our other daughter has been receiving the best support coming to terms with losing her sister, and as parents, we are proud of everything that was and is being done to support us, which we will be forever thankful for, it has all been thanks to the brilliant Orchard team."

In response to being shortlisted, the Orchard Service team said "As a team, we are incredibly grateful for this nomination and deeply touched by the kind words of the family who nominated us. Supporting families during the most difficult points in their lives is a profound responsibility and privilege. Being able to offer compassionate care, guidance, and support at such a time is at the heart of everything we do. To know we have made a difference means the world to our team. Thank you.”

The awards run by Newsquest seek to shine a light on the health and social care workers in Worcestershire who go the extra mile.

Nominees will be narrowed down to a select few finalists, who will be invited to a black-tie dinner at the Bank House Hotel in Bransford on Thursday, 4 September.
