Psychologist wins national award in neuropsychology

A local clinical neuropsychologist has been recognised with a national award for her work supporting people with dementia.

Dr Julia Cook, Lead for Psychological Interventions for people living with dementia at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, has been awarded the Early Career Neuropsychologist Award by the Division of Neuropsychology as part of the British Psychological Society.

It is a national award and recognises Dr Cook’s achievements during her post-doctoral neuropsychology training, in addition to her work to improve access to diagnosis, help and support for people with dementia, and in enhancing the help available to people after they have been diagnosed.

There were several quotes in her nomination that highlighted the contribution she has made including: ‘Alongside a clear commitment to the profession of clinical neuropsychology and to the patients she works with, Julia has demonstrated that she is capable of contributing to the advancement of the profession, particularly as it relates to older people. We look forward to seeing what she will go on to achieve’.

Dr Cook said: “I feel so privileged and honoured to have won the Early Career Neuropsychologist award. I have always wanted to combine my passion for neuropsychology and my work with people with dementia to come up with interventions based on neuropsychological principles and neurorehabilitation. Working with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care has really given me the opportunity to do so. I really couldn’t do what I do without the fantastic people and teams here so thank you to everyone I work with”.
