Trust appoints new Chair
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has confirmed the appointment of Biraj (Beej) Parmar as Chair of the Board of Directors.
Beej, who served as Interim Chair following the sad passing of former Chair Mark Yates, will take up the role on a substantive basis.
With more than 25 years of experience in the investment and commercial banking sector, as well as having served as a non-executive director in a large acute trust, Beej's proven expertise in financial, people and strategic leadership will help guide the Trust through future challenges and opportunities, ensuring that patient care remains at the heart of every decision.
A proud West Midlander, Beej grew up in Walsall and graduated from Aston University, reinforcing his strong connection to the region. Since retiring from finance in 2019, he has dedicated his time to healthcare and charitable work, including volunteering with Rennie Grove Hospice Care, where he supported patients and carers with companionship, respite, and practical help.
Beej was appointed through a fair, merit-based process managed by NHS England’s Senior Appointments and Assessments Team (SAAT) on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health. This process is aimed at selecting candidates with strong governance, commercial, and leadership skills to oversee NHS Trusts across England.
Beej said, "Having served as a Non-Executive Director for the past two and a half years, and as Interim Chair since October 2025, I am delighted to take on the permanent role of Chair of the trust.
“This is an organisation with strong values, dedicated people and a clear ambition for the future. I look forward to working with our partners and communities, and to supporting our staff, as we strengthen services, deliver high-quality care and continue to build a resilient, forward-looking trust that meets the needs of our communities earlier and closer to home.”
Ellen Rule, CEO, said, “I am delighted to welcome Beej to the role of Chair. Having worked closely with him during his time as Interim Chair, I’ve seen first-hand the depth of experience and expertise he brings to the Trust.
“I am confident that Beej will be a powerful advocate for our patients, our staff, and the communities we serve across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, ensuring that high‑quality patient care remains at the heart of everything we do.”
