Breastfeeding Team nominated in local health and care awards

The Worcestershire Breastfeeding Support Team who play a key role in supporting families to achieve their breastfeeding goals have been nominated for a local health and social care award.

The team is part of the Starting Well Partnership and has been shortlisted for the 'Health Care Team Award'  in the 2022 Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards.

The Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards celebrate the hard work health and social care workers deliver for our communities in Worcestershire.

Winners will be announced at a virtual award ceremony in October.

The team said “It’s an honour to be nominated and a great achievement. We feel passionate about what we do and to be acknowledged by other mums is lovely and shows how important our service is to Worcestershire families.” 

Louise Langston, Clinical Service Manager for Starting Well Partnership said “It’s great the breastfeeding support team have been nominated for this award. Working alongside Health Visitors and Peer Support Volunteers to provide vital emotional and practical feeding support to expectant and new families in those early days and weeks.”

The Breastfeeding Support team is part of the Starting Well Partnership which provides support to parents, families, children, and young people to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives across Worcestershire.

The service is mother-led and offers a range of different support options from telephone calls to virtual meetings, to face-to-face contact in our groups or at home, that women can access as little or as often as they like to help in supporting their breastfeeding goals.

Breast Buddies' groups are run by the Breastfeeding Support Team together with Breastfeeding Peer Supports and provide women the opportunity to meet other mothers in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Groups are currently running at:

  • Brookside Family Hub, Kidderminster. 2nd Friday of every month 11:30-12:30pm 
  • Saffron Children's Centre, Worcester will be every Thursday 12:30-2pm and every 3rd Friday of every month at 10-11:30am. 
  • Holly trees Children's Centre, Redditch will be on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of every month at 10-11:30am. 
  • Pear Trees Children's Centre, Bromsgrove will be on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at 12:30-2pm.

The Breast Buddies’ groups are always looking for more breastfeeding peer supporters to help run and support Worcestershire breastfeeding community. You can find out more information about how to get involved here.

The Starting Well Partnership provides support to parents, families, children and young people to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives across Worcestershire. Led by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the Partnership brings together professionals from Barnardo’s, Action for Children, and Redditch Borough Council to support ‘parents to be’ and their children during the early years and as they move through school towards adulthood.
