TWO nurses from Worcestershire have been shortlisted in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2022.

Tanya Knibbs and Melanie Palfrey, both registered mental health nurses at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, have been shortlisted in the ‘Post-Registration – Learner of the Year’ category for their continuous development as Developmental Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

Currently in their final year of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner MSc at Worcester University, both Melanie and Tanya have studied alongside their roles in the Worcestershire Early Intervention Dementia Service.

Once qualified, they will work at an advanced clinical practice level, taking on expanded rStudent Nursing Times Awards 2022 logooles to better meet the needs of the people they care for.

In an awards first, the pair have been shortlisted together as a joint nominee, and completed a rigorous judging process to demonstrate their passion for professional development, confidence to question and improve practice, and their appetite to continually update their clinical expertise and understanding.

Speaking on behalf of both nominees, Tayna said, "We are both proud and excited to have been nominated and shortlisted for a national award. Completing the Msc Advanced Clinical Practitioner course whilst working full time has presented us with many challenges along our journey. These challenges have been made easier by the support we have received from the Early Intervention Dementia Service Team.

"The ultimate aim has been to improve patient care and reduce waiting times for our patients.  The ACP course has enabled us to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to establish nurse-led services to meet our aims."

Natalie Willetts, Director of Nursing and Quality at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust said, “We’re incredibly proud to have two of our nurses nominated in this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards. Both Melanie and Tanya are infectious with their passion for dementia nursing and a testament to their profession. We wish them the best of luck at the awards ceremony later this month”.

The Student Nursing Times Awards will be celebrated on Friday 27 May 2022 in a live ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
