NHS Psychologist wins prestigious national award

Dr Natasha Lord, a Psychologist at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, has been awarded the British Psychological Society’s Faculty of Older People (FPOP) Bill Downes award.

The Bill Downes award recognises the contribution of clinical psychologists who support older people living with mental health needs and people living with dementia.

Dr Lord has worked within older peoples’ mental health services across Worcestershire, supporting patients living with a range of conditions including dementia and depression. In addition, she was the Trust’s driving force behind a recent project called Worcester Life Stories, a partnership with Worcester City Council to help local people create a digital memory book of their lives.

Dr Lord has also made a number of other amazing contributions, including her work with John's Campaign which champions open visiting and the rights of families and carers to stay overnight in hospitals with their loved ones with dementia.

Dr Natasha Lord said: “It was a real surprise but an honour to receive the Bill Downes Award! Since qualifying in 2010, I have always worked in Older Adult Mental Health Services and have wanted to make a difference. It is good to know that I am, but really I couldn’t do what I have done without the people I work with so thank you to everyone”.

Dr Sally Stapleton, who nominated Dr Natasha Lord said: “She has shown an outstanding and ongoing commitment to psychological work with older people.  She has an amazing ability to connect psychologists nationally, encouraging collaboration across our four nations. The more I think about what Tash has achieved so far in her career, the more the list grows!”
