Think MIU this Christmas

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs four of Worcestershire’s Minor Injury Units are urging the public to ‘think MIU’ this Christmas.

Located in Bromsgrove, Evesham, Malvern, Tenbury and Kidderminster, MIU’s provide advice and treatment for a variety of injuries including cuts, grazes, wounds, sprains, minor eye injuries, strains and minor burns.

They are open daily throughout Christmas and New Year, offering timely advice and treatment for a range of minor injuries.

Dawn Shaw, Matron for Countywide MIU's said, “If you or a loved one needs treatment for a minor injury this Christmas, think MIU first. Our highly skilled teams are on hand throughout the bank holidays to get you the help you need quickly.

By bringing your minor injuries to an MIU, you can help ease the pressure on busy emergency departments, which should only be used in emergency or life-threatening situations.”

Anyone needing treatment for a minor injury is encouraged to use the NHS111 online service (if patient is over the age of 5 years) or call NHS111 to speak to a trained adviser who, if required, will book an appointment for them to attend an MIU for treatment. Alternatively, they can walk-in to any of Worcestershire's Minor Injury Units without the need for an appointment.

The locations and opening times for local units can be found on the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust website (www.hacw.nhs.uk/MIU)

Unfortunately minor injury units are unable to treat illnesses. Those needing advice or treatment for a minor illness should visit their local pharmacy who offer expert, confidential advice as well as medicines for minor ailments such as colds, tummy troubles and much more.

For urgent, but not life-threatening illnesses contact NHS111 online. Trained advisers can direct people to the best possible care for their needs, including arranging an out-of-hours GP appointment or an appointment to attend an Emergency Department if needed.
