0-19 Public Health Nursing Service - Worcestershire

  • We support families from pregnancy through childhood and the teenage years. Our service includes health visiting, school nursing, infant feeding and Smoke Free Homes.

About our service

We support all families with children and young people aged 0–19 who live in Worcestershire.   

We check children’s health and development at important stages as they grow. We help with feeding, parenting,  behaviour  and emotional wellbeing. We support families who may need extra help. We work to keep children safe. We also offer specialist support. This is when there are worries about health,  development  or family circumstances.  

Our service includes:

We all work together to help children and young people. We want them to stay healthy,  safe  and well in their everyday lives. Our support is friendly, easy to reach and based on what you need.  

Our team includes many different people who work together. These include;  

  • Health Visitors and School Nurses (Specialist Public Health Nurses)
  • Community Staff Nurses
  • Healthy Child Practitioners
  • Infant Feeding Specialists
  • Stop Smoking Support Workers
  • School Health Support Workers

We also have a Business Support team who help keep our service running smoothly.

Health visiting

We see babies and young children. We check how they are growing,  learning  and developing. We give advice on:

  • feeding
  • sleep
  • behaviour

We work with parents and other services to help families spot any extra needs early. 

School nursing 

We support children and young people aged 5–19 in schools and the local community. We help with: 

  • physical and emotional health
  • healthy lifestyles
  • long-term conditions
  • staying safe online.  

We also measure children’s height and weight. This happens in Reception and Year 6 for the National Child Measurement Programme. Find out more about School health screening - School Screener.

 We help families with breastfeeding, formula  feeding  or mixed feeding. We offer simple, clear advice to help parents feel confident when feeding their baby.   

Smoke Free Homes

We help parents, carers and young people stop smoking. We do this by offering support and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy.  All our teams work with families, GPs,  schools  and partners. This is to make sure children get the right help at the right time.

Telephone Advisory Service (TAS)

If your child is 0-19 years old and you need advice on issues such as feeding, development or toileting, behaviour etc, you can contact our Telephone Advisory Service (TAS). The service is managed by members of the Health Visiting Team who can assist you with a variety of different worries and questions you have about your child.

Infant Feeding 

If you have any questions about breastfeeding or would like more information at any stage, the team is available to help. They also provide antenatal “Feeding Your Baby” sessions to support you in preparing for feeding your baby before birth. To contact the Infant Feeding Team:

Smoke Free Homes (SFHs)

Smoke Free Homes (SFHs) offers free, one-to-one, non-judgemental stop smoking support for anyone living in Worcestershire who has a child or young person aged 0–19 years living with them. If you would like to find out more or receive support to quit smoking, Visit: 

School Nursing

Supporting children, young people and families with a wide range of health and wellbeing concerns, from emotional health and bullying to sexual health and healthy lifestyles.

 

Information for young people

We can support you with a wide range of worries or concerns, including: Smart phone icon

  • Eating disorders
  • Bereavement/losing someone you love
  • Mental health problems including anxiety, depression, self-harm
  • Sleep problems
  • Sexual health and contraception

Children's occupational therapy webinars

Our Children’s Occupational Therapy team offers free online webinars for parents and carers, providing practical advice and strategies to support children and young people at home.

Choose the webinar that best matches your child’s needs:

  • Making sense – for children with sensory sensitivities or difficulties affecting daily life. Book now.

    Moving and doing – for children who experience difficulties with coordination or everyday tasks such as dressing and using cutlery. Book now.

What to expect:

  • Parent/carer-only sessions (children and young people should not attend)
  • Approximately 1 hour long delivered via Microsoft Teams
  • Opportunity to ask questions with an occupational therapist
  • Presentation slides shared after the session
