Services A–Z

Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams

  • We provide support for people aged 17 and over who require more intensive help than Talking Therapies can offer. Our team works with individuals experiencing more complex mental health needs and ensures they receive the right level of care.

  • Service hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm

About our service

We support people experiencing mental ill health, with a focus on recovery and improving wellbeing. We work closely with other organisations, including Primary Care and community health services, to make sure you get the right help.

Our team is made up of a mix of staff, including psychiatrists, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, support workers, mental health and wellbeing practitioners, link workers, and admin staff.

Our support

  • Timely and appropriate support for anyone referred to our service
  • Person‑centred care, focused on your recovery goals
  • Evidence‑based interventions based on your individual needs
  • Flexible support, tailored to you and the skills of our team

We may refer to other specialist mental health services as needed.

We are unable to support:

  • Anger management: We are not the right service for people who only need support with anger management.
  • Substance misuse: Alcohol or drug use can make mental health problems worse and can affect recovery. When this is the main issue, we will work with specialist addiction services, as this support is essential before progress can be made.
  • Autism/ASD: We do not provide support for people whose primary need relates to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We can support people with mental health needs that are linked to or affected by their ASD.
  • Organic illnesses: We will work with specialists to help those with mental health problems from organic causes. This may include dementia, acquired brain injury, or damage from alcohol or substances.

People who show abusive, threatening, or violent behaviour may have their service changed or stopped. This happens if they can make decisions about their actions.

How to access the service

We accept referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals. Patients cannot refer themselves directly to the service.

If you're experiencing mental health difficulties, you should contact your GP in the first instance. If the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team isn't the best option for you, you will be advised on alternative services that can help which might include Herefordshire and Worcestershire Talking Therapies, who can support you to manage stress, anxiety and low mood.

If you are experiencing something that makes you feel unsafe, distressed, or worried about your mental health, contact the Herefordshire and Worcestershire 24 hour urgent mental health helpline by calling NHS 111 and selecting the mental health option.
